A bicyclist struck by a car when weaving in and out of opposite lanes of traffic on the Northwest Side has died, authorities said this morning.

Maclovio Salgado, 45, of the 2800 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

A 1998 Toyota Camry hit Salgado around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday while trying to pass another car on the 4500 block of West Belmont Avenue in the city's Kilbourn Park neighborhood, police said.

Chicago Police Officer Marcel Bright said the bicyclist was "in and out of traffic" and was "weaving in between the east and westbound lanes."

Salgado eventually rode near a car that stopped and let him pass by, Bright said. That's when the Camry tried to pass that car before hitting the bicyclist.

"Maybe the driver (of the Camry) didn't see the cyclist and thought he was turning," Bright said.

The driver of the Camry, a 60-year-old man, was ticketed for striking a pedestrian in the roadway and failure to reduce speed.

Bright, who declined to release the driver's name this morning, said it's not likely he will face any criminal charges.
