I looked after my brakes and lights, but I ignored my chain -- much to my peril. It had rusted to an almost solid state when I attempted to ride to work this morning.

Seeing the RoSPA notice you posted reminded me of the Cycling Proficiency test (sponsored by RoSPA) we took when I was in Junior school (aged 8-11; I suppose you'd say grades 3-6 here).

See the bottom of the RoSPA site and alongside 1964 and the picture including Lenny the Lion.

Nowadays it is amusing to think of the pennant and the metal 'flag pole' with it's handlebar mount that came with it - it would take your eye out in a heartbeat in a crash, didn't seem to matter back then!
